Paul Wright – The Handy Brit

Paul first started working as a paperboy at 13, at 17 he joined the British Military then emigrated to the US at 28. Alongside full-time employment he has owned, renovated, and managed rental properties since 2003.

Paul served 12 years in the Royal Signals, the communications Corps of the British Army as a Telecommunications Engineer. He served in five operational tours on 3 different continents including the Iraq War in 2003. During the war, he was one of the first communication units to cross the border to start the liberation of Iraq. During his time he served all over the world including England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Bavaria, Poland, Holland, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Cyprus, The Falkland Islands, and the USA.

While serving at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Paul met his wife Alisa. He then left the army and emigrated to America to start a family with Alisa and her daughter’s McKensie and Piper. They married in 2009 and had a son, Oliver in 2012. Their family expanded again in 2017 when they became Lillee’s guardian.

His passion is Autocross racing. He first started racing his Rx8 in 2011 and was instantly hooked. After doing all his own work and upgrading the Rx8 he was regularly in the top 10 fastest cars at a local event. Wanting more Paul decided to build a car completely from scratch and named it Scrap Metal. The car initially took approximately 2 years to build and is an ongoing, ever upgrading project.

Paul has won four Florida state Autocross championships

Paul has won four Florida state Autocross championships as well as being the fastest time of the day (FTD) at more than 50% of events attended in Florida with Scrap Metal and finished 10th in class at the 2016 Solo National Championships. Recently Paul has had lots of success racing his friends “Jeep”. He won a trophy in each of the four National events attended, first, second, third, and fourth place at the 2017 Nationals Championships.

In the United States, Paul worked at Hoveround the power wheelchair company for 4 years, where he was promoted to IT manager within the first year. He then worked at GPS Industries for 18 months as an Electrical Engineer. In 2016 he started a property development business. Then seeing a gap in the market for professional, reliable, skilled trades Paul decided to set up a handyman business in 2017 “The Handy Brit”.
